The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $332 a month against your solar payment of $241.46 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 8.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Appalachian Power rates are moving. Appalachian Power rates in Virginia have risen more than 46% since July 2021. A customer using 1,000 kWh a month went from $117.09 to $171.99 over three years. A further $61.4 million base increase, about $9.10 a month, is pending before the State Corporation Commission and has not been approved, alongside a transmission adjustment of about $1.58 a month. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
